"I actually do my best fishing anywhere from late spring to the beginning of fall drifting potholes or wading in these areas," says Neu. Since so many baitfish gather in the Port Mansfield area in spring, it's a magnet for predators - and coming from Neu, this is information as valuable as any fishing reports you'll find. Even sightcasters do well in the area, thanks to the exceptionally clear waters.

According to Neu, fishing is at its finest when small baitfish infiltrate bay systems. "Piggy perch and pinfish cruise in and out of the pockets and make it easy pickins."

For Neu, the locations he begins to wade or drift are places that he can actually see the fish laying on the edge of the grass awaiting prey while motoring by. Setting up the initial location is simple when water clarity is the utmost. "Slicks and fleeing baitfish are other signs to watch for."

Drifting and wading are both perfectly good methods in this region, with the choice really coming down to a matter of preference. Fishing reports may vary in the opinions they give, but the experts say it is up to what works best for each angler.

"Typically I wade when I work the potholes, since this lets me get into each and every sandy patch one by one and fish each spot thoroughly," says Neu.

A man never short of fishing tips, Captain Neu also suggests wading rather than drifting if you happen to come across a group of feeding fish. He says this makes it far easier to hold a good position once you've found one.

Biologist Casey Hardin has been studying the lower Texas coast sea grasses and tells us that it seems to him that they form as the result of the substrates being unsuitable for plant growth. He also mentions that where anglers are concerned, this is probably of less interest than the fact that potholes make for great fishing when speckled trout and redfish are in your sights.

An angler himself, Hardin spends much of his free time fishing the same grassy areas he studies. "The Upper Laguna has some great shoreline, but not a lot of potholes. Personally, I love fishing these areas and I now mark potholes on my GPS before I start wading to make sure that I hit all of the best ones," says Hardin.

When conditions are windy, drifting tends to be problematic, but when working pothole laden flats, one of the best fishing tips is actually to drift to find out which potholes are the most productive spots in a shorter time.

"Trout and redfish go for soft plastics, gold spoons and topwaters, I find. When a weedless spoon isn't working for me, I go for a red and white soft plastic instead," adds Hardin. According to area fishing reports, suspending baits and lightly weighted jigs are ideal for working these grassy potholes.

Fall is the season when I seem to take most advantage of our backyard outdoor lighting. Less daylight means longer evenings in the backyard while it is still warm enough to bar-b-q enjoy the patio set until bedtime. Earlier in the year, the evenings stay light until at least past the kids bedtime, and often even later than the time our friends all go home in order to get up for work the next day. I just don't seem to use my backyard lights until the shorter days of fall, when evenings get dark way before it's time to come in.

My love of designing outdoor lighting schemes really only began when my partner and I bought our current house. I first saw how charming and romantic an interesting lighting scheme and a few well placed spotlights could be one time I was dining at a downtown restaurant patio after dark. Since then, we have experimented with the lighting plan in our backyard every year, adding and moving string lights, sometimes adding rope lights, sometimes using twinkly lights. Generally the color palette is only white, though sometimes I use color as an accent.

To start with you should think of any areas that will be tricky in the dark for anyone who is not familiar with your backyard. To keep your guests (and yourself) safe, make sure that doorways, main pathways and steps and stairs are well lit. These are probably the areas that you will want to install permanent lighting. Keeping these main areas well lit will prevent any unexpected tripping.

Once you have taken care of the safety aspects of outdoor lighting you can concentrate on creating mood or an ambiance. I personally prefer a softer type of lighting. I like to make things light enough so I can see where I'm walking and I can easily make out my guests and food but dark enough that some candle light can be appreciated. One of my favorite lighting techniques is using rope lighting or string lighting on the trees at the back of my yard. This type of lighting provides almost no illumination but provides a very pretty whimsical effect.

This means that not paying a $15 bill on a credit card could result in a $40 late fee, plus a $40 over the limit fee, for a total of $95. Now, the next bill comes due and they have to pay the $95 plus the next month's bill of $15, for a grand total of $110.

Looking at these two situations, the people who pay the late fees haven't gotten anything from the cash they paid. Instead, they are paying $80 in fees, and $50 in balance payments, whereas with a pay day loan they would get $100 upfront to do what they want. The person can pay their $25 bill, saving them $80, and still have $75 dollars in their pocket for some fun until the next pay day.

Another big reason that these two options are so difference is the credit reporting. If a person doesn't pay their bills on time it will give their credit report and credit score negatively, making it harder for them to get good financing in the future. Whereas, a pay day loan doesn't go on credit reports or shows up on credit history, and the person is able to pay their bills on time keeping their credit history in tact. Even if a person doesn't pay back their pay day loan on time, they will be charged additional fees, but it won't effect their credit report or even show up on their credit history, versus a credit late notice which does impacts people's credit score and credit history.

There are practitioners that I have met that have suggested using a silver coin or piece of silver as the pointer or planchette of the Ouija board. This is the view of many Ouija purists that I have met and one of the Ouija board rules they hold close! The Ouija should be made of a natural substance and not a waste product like cardboard like the mass produced boards. This is of course a matter or opinion and preference. You decide! The world that we know no matter how messed up it can be is still a balance of energy. This balance of energy is recommended by many practitioners of the Ouija and that balance is the balance of male and female energy when using the board. It is highly recommended that a person either male or female use the board alone. In my humble opinion this makes sense. Everything in life is a balance of male and female energy and it is no different when it comes to the Ouija board.

The Ouija board should only be practiced in a safe and clear place in your home. No negativity should be present. If there are people in the house that are angry or frustrated it is advisable to wait until they have calmed down or left the home before performing a Ouija session. You do not want their negative energy attracting negative thought forms or entities that can have an effect on your or your home. (Consult with your local Metaphysician in regards to entity removal!) One of the things you should not do is to invite negative energies or entities into your home by doing things like asking for "proof" that there is "something" in the room with you. You might find it hard to get rid of down the line. (As stated before consult your local Metaphysician in regards to entity removal!)

Do not listen to everything that comes through the Ouija board in my opinion is Ouija board rule number one. The Ouija does have a history or being somewhat misleading to it's users and that is just a fact of life. As in our realm of existence, remember to take things told to you with a grain of salt. It is the same with the Ouija board! When your Ouija session is over remember to say goodbye which is called "closing the board" Also it is advisable to remember that "thoughts become things!" we attract what it is that we think. So do your best to be in a positive frame of mind when using the Ouija as this can only work to your benefit!

"Whoever" or "Whatever" you think is telling you something, don't believe everything you hear! Ouija boards have a notorious reputations for being somewhat misleading.When the session is finished then end it by saying goodbye. This is called closing the board. There is a famous saying that I read in a book once and it goes like this, "Thoughts become things!" We attract what it is that we think. If we think positive thoughts then in turn we will attract positive occurrences on our lives. On the other hand if we think negative thoughts we will attract negative occurrences in our lives. I do consider this a Ouija board rule!

I have known many practitioners that can see "entities" or "attachments" on one's aura when they are steeped in negativity or on drugs or alcohol as negative forces like to connect with the more base emotions or people. (Consult with your local Metaphysician in regards to entity attachment!) So, remember the old saying, "Don't drink and drive!" Guess what? It applies to the Ouija board. "Don't drink and Ouija!

Healthy Conflict For Lovers

Understand this one thing about conflict: it will occur in any healthy relationship. So if you learn to deal with it in a healthy fashion, you will help your relationship to thrive.

There are a few things you can do that are healthy when conflict arises. Practice these things and you are much more likely to get through the conflict without further damaging your relationship.

First, learn to breathe during an argument. This is harder than it sounds, and may take months to do. But if you can focus on your breathing during an argument, you will stay calmer and keep the conflict from getting too ugly.

Notice while breathing this truism: conflict causes crappy conduct. People act like 8 year old's during conflict. They will scream, throw things, withdraw behind a wall of silence, and otherwise hate on their mates. You've seen people act this way and you have acted this way. Its gonna happen sometimes.

So learn to not take things done or said in an argument too personally. This can take forever to learn, but it is well worth it. In five minutes after an argument, we'll start to act like adults again. Don't let the few minutes of childishness overshadow the good between you.

Another powerful way to deal with conflict is to learn to de-escalate. Keep it from getting more heated as much as you can. Sometimes you need to say I need a few minutes to get myself under control, then walk away. Don't withdraw for hours or days, just a few minutes, as shutting your partner out has been shown to cause great damage to a relationship.

Reconnect with your mate after a fight. Don't let anger turn to poison. Say something like "sorry we went off on each other, are you okay?" Don't go hours or days not talking to each other!

If you can learn to breathe, learn to not take it too personally, and reconnect after a fight, you will be doing great. There is more to dealing with conflict well, but this would be a good start.

Three Steps Toward Building an Endowment Church Fund

For all the good churches do, most of the funding for their ministries come from pledges. What if every church was endowed? Here are some suggestions you can employ in your church to build a bigger endowment church fund.

Any church that is not building the church fund through endowments might do well to consider this option very carefully.

I just started attending a church that recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. It is a small church of only about 350 members. They finished 2008 with a deficit of $33,000. After fifty years there is no endowed church fund.

This is not unusual. Because of the current economic climate, many churches took a big hit the fourth quarter of 2008. In a December 1, 2008 article, The Barna Group predicted that churches would receive $3 billion to $5 billion less than expected the last quarter of 2008. If a church has any amount in a church fund, the balance is likely to decrease, not build, until the economy turns around.

Financing ministries from the interest on endowment funds goes a long way toward shielding the good a church can do from economic downturns.

1. Focus on the big givers.

There is something called an 80/20 rule which is applied to most things. This says that 80% of the results are produced by 20% of the people or the effort. I suspect you have heard this rule applied to something in your lifetime. But when it comes to building church funds, it is more like 98/2 " 98% of the funding comes from only 2% of the congregation. If you need to raise money for an endowed church fund, concentrate on the 2% of the congregation who are the big givers.

I am convinced that all giving to church funds is faith-based and motivated by altruism. But I also know that large gifts are often "sacrificial giving" for people. If you can show a potential donor how to solve their own financial needs or problems with a gift to the church, your fundraising efforts will be more successful.

For example, how to sell a business without paying a capital gains tax and how to pass on wealth to the next generation without first giving half of the person's estate to the government are typical examples. Yes, I know, the tax aspect of major gifts is not the primary reason gifts are made. Most of the time, it's not even on a person's list. Nevertheless, if you can show someone who is interested in your cause how to make a gift that satisfies his or her interest and support of your mission and help them solve a problem at the same time, your chances of getting the gift (maybe even a larger one) and adding to the balance of your church fund is enhanced.

3. Support your fundraising effort with case study information.

Many of the people who could be major donors to church funds don't know how to plan approaches to giving that both are legal and provide incentives to make large gifts to the church fund.

During my 39 years in the financial and estate planning arena, I have spoken with numerous business owners who didn't even know they had a problem. No one had ever pointed out to them how much of the fruits of their labors could be lost in taxes. I think church fundraisers also suffer from the same lack of information, as do church members.

By explaining the laws and offering case study examples of how other people have solved similar problems, I believe fundraisers can easily help people see how their tax problems can be eliminated by opening a conversation about making a sizeable contribution to a church fund that will pay interest and provide the principle of the gift to the church.
