The Benefits Of A Wooden Greenhouse

By Eddie John

Growing plants can be a very difficult and time consuming process. A wooden greenhouse can help to reduce some of the variables involved in gardening. These houses give you a controlled, sheltered environment to grow your plants to your specifications.

Growing you plants in a greenhouse is not a new-age idea. In fact, greenhouses have been used since the Bronze Age and have only gotten better since. To older civilizations, greenhouses provided a place where food could be grown year round. It also allowed them to keep plants alive during the winter so there was no need to start from seed that following spring.

A greenhouse lets you control and modify the environment inside of it. This means you can grow plants from many different regions since you can simulate their place of origin. Also, you don't need to worry about your plants dying from frost in the winter. If you enjoy vegetables, you can have them growing all year round; all you have to do is keep the temperature of the house at an optimum level.

This allows you to grow many different plants under one roof since you are taking out the environmental variable. And if your area doesn't get enough sunlight, you can install UV lights in your greenhouse to keep your plants growing at any time. This also allows you to bring in foreign plants from tropical or desert regions since you have control over the environment.

Another great advantage you get in a greenhouse is exact control over your plants. You can make sure there is no cross pollination with other species or with weaker plants. If you are trying to breed a specific type of plant you have direct control of the pollination so you can breed plants by selecting the desirable traits.

A lot of people enjoy growing vegetables in the backyard but don't want to deal with the bugs that could infest them. In a greenhouse, you can make sure that no bugs take hold so your plants won't get eaten. In addition, you won't have to use any pesticides that could potentially harm your crop.

The only drawback with wooden greenhouses is the fact that they are made out of wood. Wood is porous so it will be very difficult to control humidity levels in your greenhouse. One the plus side, wood is also very cheap so you can build the house at a very low price. Making a greenhouse out of fiberglass can be very costly and not worth it.
