What Are An Undertaker's Responsibilities In A Funeral Service

By Rhea Alvarez

Undertakers, who are also known as funeral directors, are people who are next in importance to the family of the deceased and the clergy when it is about funeral services. These people take care of the preparations of the funeral, right from the beginning till the end. Undertakers have to be ready to work any time of the day and any day of the year without fail, as they have an emergency duty.

Death brings with it myriad decisions, which the grieving family members are not able to take immediately in the face of their great loss. An undertaker acts as an advisor needed to take such decisions. He takes quick and wise decisions about the time, location and kind of the funeral service. In addition to that, the undertaker actually helps you to be able to bear your loss, by merely being there at your service and taking up responsibility of an organiser of the funeral services, which display the love and respect you have for the departed.

The first step in organising any funeral service is to deliberate upon the time, venue and date of the funeral service, so that the same can be communicated to friends and relatives. After this is finalised, the undertaker helps you in bringing the deceased to the funeral home or to the place where he or she is to be finally rested. In case of a burial service, the appropriate coffin in which the body is to be laid is mostly selected by the undertaker.

The undertaker takes care of every detail of the funeral service, including arranging for flowers, transport, luncheon, priests, choir singers, ashes and headstone, and any other detail that needs to be worked upon. All preparations are made by the undertaker after discussing it with the family to ensure that the dead person is truly treated with respect.

Finally, some undertakers even help you in getting the dead from other countries, embalming the body and can also help in conducting the funeral service in another country, according to your need.
